Well took a run to the river tonight....but it wasn't as good as i'd hoped only rose two trout and caught one on a size 16 ASSASSINE...which took to the air and on the third jump was gone...!!
Ah well ,good to see some trout moving and hopefully get back out next week as the level drops.
Seriously considering a 6ft rod for the likes of this river!!!
Took a break from working on bikes and headed out to see the river....Nice surprise sitting at 3 on the marker and running clear with just a slight colour to it....yee haa that's me back for a throw tonight...much like Telf i prefer the different challenges that a river brings.......like trying not to lose all my flies up trees or far bank vegetation..!!

Corbet Lake 08/04/10

We had a great time on Corbet Lake with loads of fish all returned. Not a bad day for me to start my season even though we're one month in. Cant wait untill the rivers get back into order and we can start fishing for wild brownies on light gear.

Tuesday, 6 April 2010

Well i actually did get out last week, as the sun broke through giving us a fairly good day
i took myself to Corbet Lough for opening day.
A fair few guys were out on the banks but i got myself a quiet spot and cast a short line out...thump thump fish on...whaaa....this is not like me....nice overwintered fish about two pounds..forgot how well they fight,
Good start me thinks...two more casts into another...then another about three pounds...
So the day carried on like this with well over twenty fish landed and returned..a cracking days fishing.
Sinking line slow retrieve size ten lure.
Sorry no pics as the batterys run out in the car park...Doh!!!
Not to worry me and Telf should be there this week and hopefully get some pics.

Monday, 29 March 2010

Well with the weather being what it is and the forcast for typical easter weather..sleet!!
I'm not hopeful of getting out this week...so i'll be tying more flies i guess.

This is another of my faves, i heard about this book back in '93 from an article by NEIL PATTERSON called flies that feed families...some great patterns in here that really do work on fussy trout.
One of my favorite books for crisp dry flys....
and i have a signed copy..yay!!

Spent Caddis by A.K. Best

THIS ARRIVED YESTERDAY...LOOKING FORWARD TO VIEWING IT

The last in the series from AEG (Trout Bum Diaries), FISH BUM VOLUME II: Metalhead chronicles the epic journey of five fish bums and their friends as they travel to remote Northwestern wilderness in search of legendary steelhead; the hottest freshwater fish you can catch on a fly rod and also a fish whose survival hangs in the balance. Filmed as an adventure documentary, the fish bums face the challenges of mother-nature, border police and Giardia. This untamed and majestic land offers the best opportunity for an angler to hook into a wild trophy steelhead. If you are lucky enough to land one these incredible fish, you will be forever changed. Follow the dedication, obsession and insanity that drive steelheaders to pursue a fish that is not in the river to feed, a fish known as Metalhead.
